Porridge & FlapJacks

Been trying to get into porridge again recently. I know it’s good stuff. This recent article on 365 is very informative, and I know KarlonSea likes it, although would be the first to admit that’s it is not good with kippers.

So this weekend, I noticed a recipe for flapjacks on the back of a Scot’s porridge oats box, and thought I’d give it a go.

  • 180g Butter
  • 180g Demerara sugar
  • 2 table spoon golden syrup
  • Pinch of ground ginger
  • melt ingredients on low heat in pan, and ensure thoroughly mixed
  • mix in 420g porridge oats
  • spread evenly across 30×20cm baking tray
  • heat in oven at 190C for 20-25 mins
  • scribe when taking out of the oven, and separate after cooled

Very nice for breakfast they were. Not sure if the overall balance of cholestoerol is reduced though, given the amount of butter. Oh well, a good incentive to go for my usual run. Funny thing is, it seems to be the fastest time that I have logged for it:

Workout:

  • Type: Run
  • Date: 02/23/2009
  • Time: 20:30:00
  • Total Time: 00:16:30.00
  • Calories: 291
  • Distance: 2.3 miles
  • Average Pace: 7:10.62/mile
